Harvesting Down Corn

Harvesting down corn doesn’t have to be as difficult or detrimental as it may seem. Drago corn heads are uniquely engineered to get under stalks, bring them in and capture more ears.

Tackle down corn with confidence

The challenge with down corn, of course, is getting the most intact ears into the head as possible. And no other corn head meets that challenge better than Drago. Both the Drago GT+ and the Drago Series II corn heads are specifically designed to slip under corn, manage stalks, and minimize ear loss. When it comes to harvesting down corn, Drago corn heads are unsurpassed. See for yourself.

WHAT MAKES DRAGO THE BEST CORN HEAD IN DOWN CORN?

Drago’s corn head design and engineering allow for a faster, more complete and less stressful harvest in down corn. And with exclusive features like Automatic Self-Adjusting Deck Plates and longer knife rollers, you’ll capture more grain, too. Check out the many yield-saving features exclusive to Drago corn heads.

LOWER PROFILE ANGLE

The Drago GT+ corn head features a working angle of 17-23 degrees. The low angle allows snouts to slip through stalks, reduce ear loss out front, and move ears up the row unit with ease. This lower working angle is a key feature that allows the Drago GT+ to work through down corn more efficiently, too.

AGGRESSIVE OVERLAPPING GATHERING CHAINS

Gathering chains run on large idler sprockets that are forward-placed, in front of knife rollers, where overlapping chain fingers can grab, pull up and pull in stalks — a vital feature for picking up corn in less-than perfect conditions.

SHORT DOWN CORN AUGERS

Standard on every GT+, the adjustable augers bring in leaning stalks and limit hanging ear loss for added yield capture and confidence in lodged or down corn situations.

SPRING-LOADED SNOUT PRESSURE

To help ensure your snouts stay under down corn, Drago has designed this feature that allows you to apply and adjust down-pressure to your snouts – keeping them where they belong.

CONTROLLED CHOPPING

Look carefully at the placement of choppers on a Drago compared to other brands. Drago chopping blades are set back so they don’t strike stalks until knife rollers have a grip. This design prevents blades from striking stalks prematurely and either losing stalks that may fall away from the header or jarring off ears before they land in the row unit.

BUILT-IN DURABILITY

Drago engineers know you’re going to get that header as low to the ground as possible. Sometimes too low. That’s when you’ll appreciate knife-rollers that are supported up front with nose cones featuring double-bearings, grease bank and milled-in dirt barrier to protect seals.

PRECISE CLUTCH TECHNOLOGY

Running low to the ground means your header may pick up more than corn. Exclusive to the Drago GT+ corn head, you’ll love the separate clutches for gathering chains, knife rollers and chopper gearboxes – each with their own precise setting to keep you running.

MASSIVE AUGER

A massive auger moves ears gently and more efficiently, reducing potential yield loss at the feederhouse.
